Eldas Member of Parliament Adan Keynan has urged an urgent audit of the Social Health Authority (SHA), saying that the recently raised concerns over the system should be taken as a national priority.

As the nation’s healthcare reforms come under closer scrutiny, Keynan stressed the importance of accountability and timely measures to rebuild trust.

Speaking in a local TV interview on Monday, April 27, 2026, Keynan said that it is time for the stakeholders, the ministry and other professionals to audit the system and fill the gaps as a matter of national interest and urgency so that Kenyans are served the services they deserve.

“It is high time that the key players, the ministry and other key professionals in this must audit the system and address the gaps as a matter of national interest and a matter of urgency so that Kenyans can. The issues being raised are weighty, and they must be addressed by those who are in charge of SHA,” Keynan said.

The MP highlighted that the concerns raised are not trivial but “weighty matters” that demand the attention of the authorities. He noted that if not addressed promptly, this could threaten the realisation of universal health care in Kenya, which is a core part of the government’s reform agenda.

Parliamentary oversight on SHA

Keynan also appealed to Parliament, stating the need for the Departmental Committee on Health to take up the baton and more effectively play its oversight role. He stressed that the committee should consider addressing the SHA issues as part of their oversight mandate, with any underlying issues identified and rectified promptly.

“The committee of health should take this up and deal with it as part of their oversight role,” he emphasised, adding that Parliament has a vital role in protecting public funds and delivering effective services.

As health remains a priority for many Kenyans, the call for an immediate audit and enhanced oversight reflects an appetite for reforms that not only promise improvements but also improve people’s lives.
