Nyong’o sounds alarm over attacks on businesses in Kisumu
Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has condemned recent acts of lawlessness targeting businesses in the lakeside city, warning that the incidents threaten investor confidence and economic stability.
In a statement on his Facebook account on Monday, April 13, 2026, Nyong’o said the county remains a key investment hub and gateway to the Lake Region Economic Bloc, but rising insecurity risks are undermining that position.
This comes following the recent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who suffered injuries in an attack in Kisumu on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, and officials airlifted him to Nairobi for treatment.

“Kisumu remains a leading investment hub and gateway to the Lake Region Economic Bloc. However, recent acts of lawlessness threaten our progress, investor confidence, and community safety,” Nyong’o said.
Attacks on key businesses
Nyong’o pointed out recent attacks on private property, including incidents at Fairways Hotel, Kisumu, and Java House West End Mall, terming them criminal acts that must be dealt with firmly.
“We strongly condemn the recent attacks on private property and investment, particularly the incidents at Fairways Hotel and Java House West End Mall. These are criminal acts that undermine livelihoods and economic stability,” Nyong’o said.
The governor called on the Ministry of Interior and National Administration to act on the issue by enhancing intelligence operations, identifying those responsible, and ensuring their arrest and prosecution without fear or favour.

He stressed the need for a coordinated approach between national and county security agencies to restore order.
“We call on the Ministry of Interior and National Administration to act urgently by enhancing intelligence, identifying those responsible and ensuring the swift arrest and prosecution of all perpetrators without fear or favour,” Nyong’o said.
He added, “The peace, stability, and prosperity of Kisumu are non-negotiable. As leaders, we remain fully committed to working with security agencies and all stakeholders to ensure that order is restored and maintained.”
Kisumu’s recent attacks
In March 2026, suspected goons stormed Fairways Hotel in Kisumu, causing extensive damage and losses estimated at tens of millions of shillings amid a protracted property dispute.

He recently described a warm reception upon arrival in Kisumu.
“When I arrived at Kisumu Airport, I had a large team of youth who were shouting and encouraging us to continue doing what we were doing. “I decided to go to Kisumu for a haircut. I went to the Acacia Complex,” he said, referring to the busy business area that hosts several outlets, including a restaurant.
