The County government of Murang’a has partnered with Safaricom Limited to create a digital platform for revenue collection. Governor Irungu Kang’ata said the county has 22 revenue streams but only five have been digitalised.

Addressing the media after a meeting with Safaricom Chief executive Peter Ndegwa (pictured), the governor said this will help the county collect more revenue compared to the manual system.

Kang’ata said the digital platform will also be convenient to the locals as they will be able to pay for the services without going to the offices.

“This will save people the time spent on moving from one office to another and they won’t have to wait for an officer to serve them” he said. He said the digital revenue collection has been on piloting stage for three months and it has proven to be effective, pointing that that it will be fully rolled out in all parts of the county.

Ndegwa said the company is ready to support the government both at the national and the county level in digitalising the services for efficiency.
