MP Wamboka puts bodaboda lenders on notice
In a bid to save local bodaboda operators from being exploited by lenders, Bumula MP Jack Wamboka has said his office will act as a guarantor to riders seeking to acquire the motorbikes those going for bikes on credit.
Wamboka said his office will ensure that lenders make full disclosure of all the details to the riders before they sign for the bikes.
“Motorcycle lenders are taking advantage of the desperate bodabodas to sign for bikes on credit which they have no right of ownership,” said Wamboka.
Speaking when he issued smart licenses to 200 bodabodas who successfully completed their driving courses, Wamboka said he would not sit back and watch his electorates go into depression because of rogue lenders.
“I will be one of your guarantors to ensure that the lenders don’t bend rules after you have agreed with them on terms of loan payments,” said Wamboka.
He said he had taken the initiative after discovering that the borrowers were paying three times the cost of the bike.
The MP also regretted that lenders were confiscating bikes from their clients even if they failed to pay a loan for one day. He defended the bodabodas saying that when they failed to pay loans it was upon the lenders to sit down with them and sign an extension period
