Kenya Power lists parts of Nairobi to experience outage on Saturday, September 27

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced planned power maintenance that will disrupt normal operations in parts of Riverside, Nairobi, on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

According to a public notice released by KPLC on Friday, September 26, 2025, residents and businesses around Riverside are advised to prepare for a planned power interruption.

The maintenance particular exercise will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and will affect several key roads, institutions, and commercial establishments.

”Good evening. Planned power maintenance will affect the listed areas tomorrow, 27th Sept 2025. We regret any inconvenience caused. For advance notices,” Kenya Power’s statement said in part.

Areas to be affected

The areas set to experience the outage include parts of Sports Road, Raphta Road, David Osieli Road, Church Road, Mvuli Road, East Church Road, Fox Close, and sections of Ring Road Westlands.

Other affected locations are Lantana Road, Mkoko Close, St. Michaels Road, Ibis Hotel, Rehema House, Riverside Gardens, Kolobot Road, and parts of Riverside Drive.

The outage will also impact major facilities such as Chiromo UON Hostels, sections of State House Road, Taj View Apartments, Arboretum Road, Confucius Institute, Prime Bank, Delta Riverside, Dusit D2, Qwetu Hostels, UON Chiromo Campus, parts of Waiyaki Way, Consolata School, ICEA Lions, GTC Towers, and adjacent customers.

The utility firm has apologised for the disruption expected to be caused by the planned maintenance aimed at improving reliability.

Power outages in Nairobi and Machakos

The notification comes after KPLC recently announced planned power maintenance affecting several areas in Nairobi and Machakos counties on Saturday, September 13, 2025. The utility company said the maintenance was necessary to improve service reliability and ensure continued efficiency in electricity supply.

In Nairobi, parts of Upperhill were to experience power outages between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Customers in affected areas included residents and businesses along 3rd, 4th, and 5th Ngong Avenues; the Kenya National Library, NHIF offices, the Ministry of Lands, I & M Bank, Nairobi Traffic Police, Nairobi Club, New Life SDA Church, AAR, and other adjacent customers.

The company urged residents and businesses in the affected areas to plan and make necessary arrangements to minimise inconvenience during the maintenance period.

In Machakos County, parts of the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) also experienced outages on the same day, with power expected to be unavailable from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. The affected customers included Hela, Nordor, African Coffee Roasters, MAS Intimates, and surrounding businesses and facilities.
