Safaricom has clarified that customers cannot increase their M-Pesa Fuliza limits through any self-service website or third-party platform, saying the borrowing limit is determined through an automated scoring process.

The clarification follows widespread speculation on social media after the company shared a teaser on July 2, 2026, hinting at possible Fuliza limit reviews. The post attracted thousands of reactions from customers hoping for higher limits.

The telecom company later responded to customers who had asked whether they could increase their limits through a website claiming to offer self-service reviews.

Responding to a query from an X user about the platform myfulizelimit.co.ke, Safaricom said: “Fuliza limit scoring is an automated process that looks at different metrics and cannot be manually adjusted.”

The company advised customers to rely only on official Safaricom platforms for information relating to Fuliza services.

Automated scoring system

Safaricom said Fuliza limits are determined through an automated assessment conducted in partnership with KCB Bank Kenya and NCBA Bank.

The company explained that the system evaluates several factors before assigning or reviewing a customer’s borrowing limit.

Among the key considerations are the frequency and value of M-Pesa transactions, including money transfers, withdrawals, Lipa na M-Pesa payments, airtime purchases, voice and data usage.

Repayment history also plays a significant role. Customers who consistently repay Fuliza, M-Shwari and KCB M-Pesa loans on time are more likely to maintain or improve their limits.

The scoring process also considers a customer’s Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) status, savings behaviour through products such as M-Shwari and the age of the mobile line.

Safaricom noted that new lines generally begin with zero limits, while every registered M-Pesa number is assessed independently.

The company said limits range from zero to about Ksh70,000 for individual customers and are reviewed periodically depending on account activity.

Requesting a review

Customers seeking a review of their limits can submit a request through the Fuliza menu by dialling *334#, selecting Fuliza M-Pesa and choosing the “Refresh My Limit” option.

Safaricom said the option is available once every 30 days, although approval remains subject to the automated scoring process.

The company encouraged customers to maintain regular use of M-Pesa services, repay loans promptly and maintain a positive CRB record to improve their chances of qualifying for higher limits.

It also cautioned that opting out of Fuliza may result in a lower limit or a fresh assessment upon reactivation.

Growing use of Fuliza

Launched in January 2019, Fuliza enables M-Pesa users to complete transactions even when they do not have sufficient funds in their accounts.

The facility covers person-to-person transfers, bill payments, merchant payments and cash withdrawals, with customers repaying the overdraft once money is received in their M-Pesa accounts.

According to Safaricom, Fuliza disbursements reached Ksh1.47 trillion during the 2026 financial year, a 49.3 percent increase from the previous year.

The service recorded 17.7 million users during the period and generated Ksh6 billion in revenue, reflecting continued demand for short-term mobile credit.

Despite complaints from some customers about stagnant or reduced borrowing limits, Safaricom has maintained that Fuliza reviews are based entirely on automated scoring and cannot be influenced through manual requests.
