CS Miano unveils agri-tourism push to showcase Kenya’s hidden gems
The government has extended an open invitation to Kenyans and international visitors to tour the country’s tea and coffee farms as part of a broader strategy to diversify Kenya’s tourism offerings.
In a statement on Monday, July 21, 2025, Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano highlighted the untapped potential of Kenya’s agricultural heritage.
“We invite you to consider touring our world-renowned tea and coffee farms or experience our athletic heritage, which provides authentic, immersive experiences that diversify our offerings and drive economic growth across multiple value chains,” she stated.
Miano said the government is intentional about opening new frontiers that showcase Kenya’s rich culture, landscapes, and local industries.
“In our quest to raise tourist arrivals in the country and consequently increase the sector’s contribution to the economy, we’re intentional in opening new frontiers and extending beyond traditional beaches and safaris,” read the statement.
Furthermore, she emphasised the ministry’s commitment to building strong linkages with key sectors, including agriculture, sports, and the creative economy.
“We are actively creating linkages with key sectors like agriculture, sports, and the creative economy as well as tapping into the agility and innovativeness of our youth,” the statement added.

Kenya-Morocco agreement
This announcement comes a month after Morocco pledged to increase its imports of Kenyan tea and coffee, as bilateral ties between the two countries deepen.
The commitment was made during a high-level meeting on May 28, 2025, in Rabat, between Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch. The two leaders discussed enhancing cooperation in key sectors, including trade, tourism, agriculture, industry, and education.
Prime Minister Akhannouch said Morocco would prioritise Kenyan tea and coffee among its import considerations, offering a potential new market for two of Kenya’s top agricultural exports.
“We also agreed to commence immediate bilateral engagements aimed at unlocking Morocco’s full market potential for Kenyan products and expertise,” the Prime Cabinet Secretary stated.
The Moroccan Prime Minister further expressed his intention to visit Kenya at Mudavadi’s invitation, accompanied by a delegation of Moroccan investors, to cement economic and diplomatic ties.
