Uhuru asks Kenyans to help him hand over power to Raila, not Ruto
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, hit the ground running campaigning for his preferred successor Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
Speaking in Embakasi East constituency, Uhuru told a gathering that Raila and his running mate Martha Karua are people of integrity.
The President further took a swipe at Kenya Kwanza leaders who have been calling on him to retire and go home after the August 9 election.
Sasa wewe unaongea Uhuru hatafuti kura ama namna gani? Ati wananiambia ati nimalize niende, kwani wanafikiria nimalize niende wapi? Si ntakua hapa tu!
(Others are fond of insulting me and I am not asking for any votes. They are telling me to finish and go, where am I going? I still have a lot of work to do),” Uhuru said.
Uhuru to hand over power to Raila
The President said he will continue executing his duties as the head of state and government until he hands over power to his successor.
Uhuru earnestly urged Kenyans to ensure that his successor is none other than Raila Amolo Odinga.
“I will do my duties until the last minute. There are still hospitals to build. There are still roads to be constructed and much more government work to be done. I implore you with a lot of humility that you make sure that the one who will succeed me is none other than Raila Amolo Odinga),” Uhuru said.
