The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, grilled three Kenya Kwanza polling agents over alleged attempted hacking of the electoral body servers.

The three, Nicholas Kipkoskei, Geoffrey Koech, Shadrack Rutto, were officially summoned through their lawyer Nelson Havi after the latter requested detectives to summon them through his firm.

“For the purpose of our investigations, kindly avail the below stated persons for statement recording on August 30 at the DCI Nairobi region headquarters,” the investigator wrote to Havi.

Havi had initially objected to the summons saying the clients feared for their lives.

“Due to the safety concerns of our clients following the abduction of their colleagues upon acceding to similar requests, we have been instructed to collect the two laptops on their behalf,” he said.

“For the same reason, if the two are required in furtherance of any criminal investigations, please, serve formal summons for their attendance upon us. We will bring them to your offices,” he added, in a letter dated August 29, to the DCI.

According to Havi, Kipkosgei surrendered his laptop, make Lenovo T480S serial number PC0YHJ4B to the Office of the Deputy Inspector General, Administration Police Service Noor Gabow then situated at the Bomas of Kenya.

“Godfrey Koech also surrendered his laptop make Lenovo ThinkPad serial number E14 to the same officer in the same office,” he said.

Yesterday, the Digital Strategist at the Kenya Kwanza’s Presidential Campaign Dennis Itumbi, however, yesterday termed the summons ‘stupidity that must be ignored’.

“Directorate of Criminal Investigations – DCI still attempting to arrest our Bomas agents for no reason at all. A time comes when stupidity must be ignored. We cannot aid the obvious attempt to complete nonsensical theories and fabrications,” Itumbi said. 

The DCI in a forensic report dated August 5 revealed the three Venezuelans at the heart of the August 9 poll rigging claims may have infiltrated the IEBC system.
