Karua calls for high turnout in Nyanza as Ngilu tours Kwale
Azimio-One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s running-mate Martha Karua yesterday rallied Nyanza residents to vote for them in large numbers in the August 9 General Election.
Karua, who campaigned in Homa Bay County, asked Nyanza residents to remain steadfast in their support for Raila.
She said all Kenyan communities had rallied behind the ODM leader.
“Azimio means well for Kenya and will liberate the nation from socio- economic challenges,” she said.
She said their administration would build a robust economy that will cushion Kenyans against hunger and liberate them from harsh economic times.
She reiterated the pledge by Azimio to build industrial parks, or at least one factory producing one product per county, if they form the next government.
“Our aim is to create more wealth and employment opportunities for the millions of jobless youth,” said Karua.
Narc Kenya leader also campaigned for Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga who is running for governor. Wanga’s campaign received a boost when two area MPs endorsed her.
Separately, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu took the Azimio campaigns to Kwale where she rallied support for Raila.
Ngilu, who held a series of rallies in Matuga and Msambweni constituencies, said Azimio was the only party which has the Coast region’s interests at heart.
Land problem
She said Raila and Karua’s administration would sort out the perennial land problem.
She accused Deputy President William Ruto of frustrating the issuance of tittle deeds to landless residents in the region during the first term of the Jubilee administration.
“I was the minister for Lands and we issued a lot of tittle deeds here together with President Uhuru Kenyatta but Ruto was against it,” she said.
Ngilu also dismissed Ruto’s bottom up economic model saying the Kenya Kwanza leader was an enemy of devolution.
“Ruto has always been against devolution, now he is talking about bottom up yet he doesn’t want more resources sent to counties. Raila wants an increase of funds to county governments which will revive the economy from the ward level,” she said.
