Presidential aspirant Prof George Wajackoyah has been temporarily barred from the race after he failed to collect enough signatures to nominate him to vie for the top seat.

In a statement, IEBC said it has given the Roots Party leader up to June 2, 2022, to collect enough signatures before he is cleared to vie.

“IEBC Chairman, Mr Wafula Chebukati has rejected Prof Wajackoyah’s application for clearance as a Presidential candidate for failing to raise the requisite 2,000 signatures per county in at least 24 counties. Prof Wajackoyah has until 2nd June at 3 pm to meet that requirement,” IEBC said in a tweet.

Wajackoya complied in only 17 counties, hence needs seven more counties to be cleared to vie.

Prof Wajackoyah, who has spurred a heated debated in the race, promised to legalise Marijuana if he becomes President, even before he makes any changes in government.

This was among his 12-point agenda, that he unveiled in February.

He said that proceeds from the sale of Marijuana would be used to clear Kenya’s debts.

Wajackoyah also promised to establish a four-day workweek (Monday through Thursday), to allow Muslims enough time to worship on Friday.
