Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei is the new Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.

Shollei trounced Dadaap Member of Parliament (MP) Farah Maalim to clinch the seat.

Shollei got 198 votes while Maalim garnered 139 votes.

The voting was to go to the second round for the winner to garner 233 votes.

Kenya Kwanza sponsors Shollei

Shollei was being fronted by the William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza alliance while Azimio backed Maalim.

She will be the second female deputy speaker in the National Assembly after former Sotik MP the late Joyce Laboso served between 2013 and 2017.

Shollei will work under Moses Wetangula who was elected Speaker on Thursday, September 8, 2022.
