Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed yesterday issued a stern warning to those involved in match fixing that they would face the full force of the law when caught.

Speaking to People Sport in Eldoret yesterday, Amina said match fixing was as bad as doping and that the government would deal with the offenders the same way they deal with doping culprits.

“Match fixing is as bad as doping and we are not going to relent. We are going to deal with it just the same way we will deal with doping,” said Amina in reference to a Ugandan national who was caught at the weekend trying to bribe a section of Kenya Premier League players in order to influence their match results.

She added: “There is absolutely no difference between match-fixing and doping and I can assure you that we are urgently going to put very tough measures to stop the vice.

Those involved cannot go scot free; they will be held accountable for their actions because we cannot accept our young talent to be exposed to match fixing.”

Amina at the same time said she was excited with the new anti-doping laws that have come into place.

“I can tell you that it has been long overdue. I still remember last year while attending a global anti-doping function in Poland where I raised the whole issue of ecosystem in fighting against doping.

I made it very clear that athletes, coaches and managers, the doctors and that whole ecosystem must be treated with the same measures that the athlete is being treated to tame the vice,” she said.
