Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has not settled Harambee Stars’  allowances from last month’s Africa Cup of Nations, despite the government disbursed Sh240 million upfront for the continental showpiece.

FKF has reportedly gagged players from disclosing the matter and instead treated it as a ‘house keeping’ issue that does not need public attention. 

The outrageous precedence came to light when the timeline issued for this settlement elapsed without word from the federation, sparking concerns among players.

FKF is yet to disclose the details of how close to quarter of a billion shilling being government’s facilitation was spent one month after Harambee Stars were bundled out of the 32nd edition of the tournament.

“We do not know what is going on and we do not know if the money will be paid at all going by what is happening to the women’s team. 

We were told to be patient that the money will arrive swiftly and therefore it is not necessary to talk about it outside the team circles but it is taking forever. 

It might be forgotten,” a member of the Afcon squad who pleaded for anonymity for fear of victimisation told People Sport yesterday. 

He added: “There are so many players who represented Kenya and spent their personal resources but never got refunds let alone being paid their dues.” 

FKF acting CEO Barry Otieno confirmed the same but deflected blame to the government through the Sports Fund. Otieno told People Sport that each player is owed Sh250,000 in bonuses for beating Tanzania but the government is yet to release the money for onward payment to players.

“It is true the players are owed some money. It is winning bonuses for the sole victory over Tanzania,” he said.
