Nakuru County Assembly has suffered a major blow after one of its most vocal members died in a road accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway yesterday morning.
Lake View MCA Karanja Mburu died after his car veered off the road and crashed into a tree near View Point, 10km from Gilgil town.
The ward rep, who was a close friend of Deputy President William Ruto and Senator Susan Kihika, was alone and heading to Nakuru from Naivasha when the accident occurred.
“There was an accident early in the morning in which the Lake View MCA lost control of his vehicle which rolled and hit a tree and in the process he passed on,” said Gilgil OCPD Emmanuel Opuru.
Ruto, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, Kihika, and Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara were among the first people to send their condolences to Mburu’s family.
Ruto described the deceased, who was in his mid-30s as a humble, devoted and distinguished politician who selflessly served the people of Lake View ward.
“Mheshimiwa Mburu was a giant. A sincere and dependable leader with immense ability,” he said.
Stand ground
Governor Kinyanjui described him as an articulate debater who displayed high passion for his work.
Kihika said: “I am devastated by the sudden passing on of my dear friend. He was a hardworking and principled leader who was never afraid to stand his ground.”
“We have lost a promising leader in Naivasha,”Kihara said. Former Naivasha MP John Mututho said the youthful leader had a bright future.
The first time MCA was a member of the county disaster committee, which is currently involved in distributing relief food to families affected by Covid-19 pandemic.
He had assured Nakuru residents that the Sh250 million emergency fund would be properly utilised.
“Wakula kuku, tunakula kama kuku… this has to stop,” was one of Mburu’s favourite lines.
His body was moved to Umash Funeral Home while the wreck was towed to Gilgil Police Station.
