Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment has created a wave that has either breathed new life into some Nyandarua county leaders’ political future or put those of others on the line depending on which side they were.

One of the MPs whose political star has sparkled brightly again is Wanjiku Muhia of the Kipipiri constituency after she opposed Gachagua’s impeachment.

The MP who has also served as Nyandarua Woman Rep (2013-17) and East African Legislative Assembly MP (2017-22) is the only one among the five MPs in the county who appeared at the Ol Kalou CDF hall to participate in public participation on the DP’s impeachment motion.

Speaking after getting a heroic reception from the people, Wamuhia said she learnt her lesson after she supported the immensely unpopular 2024 Finance Bill that was later dropped by the President following the widespread demonstration by Gen-Z.

“(In Gachagua’s impeachment) We can’t afford to repeat the mistake we made by supporting the last finance bill against the wishes of the electorate,” she said.

Her decision to vote against Gachagua’s impeachment has changed her future political fortunes in Kipipiri where she has been facing an onslaught by former area MP and Kibaki-era Finance Minister Amos Kimunya and three-time Wanjohi Ward MCA Isaac Kung’u. Wanjohi Ward is in the constituency.

By opposing Gachagua’s impeachment, Wamuhia has suddenly become the darling of many not just in the constituency but in the whole county. Some now want her to vie for the Woman Rep again or go for the governor’s seat in 2027.

Shamata MCA, Gitau Njamba declared during the Mashujaa Day celebration that Senator John Methu (pictured) and Wamuhia were “hero and heroine of the County” respectively for standing to be counted during the DP’s impeachment motion in the National Assembly and the Senate.

But as Methu and Wamuhia enjoy renewed support in the County, it is not so for other legislators George Gachagua (Ndaragwa), Michael Muchira (Oljororok), Kwenya Thuku (Kinangop) and Woman Rep Faith Gitau.
