The US government has invested Sh10.3 billion in various projects and programmes in Kisii County to create jobs and boost the lives of residents, the US ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman said yesterday.

She said the government has invested in health and pharmaceutical services, agriculture, sanitation, technology, manufacturing, democracy and governance through various US- funded Agencies.

The envoy who paid a courtesy call on Governor Simba Arati and inspected various projects funded by the US government said the government will continue partnering with the County government in various projects. “The US government is funding agro-processing in banana and avocado factories. We also want to support the government in reviving the pyrethrum sector,” Whitman told the media after meeting with the governor.

She noted pyrethrum has an important ingredient of producing organic pesticides, which, she noted has a high demand in the American and European markets, stressing that the US government will support the sector.

Whitman defended the presence of the activities of the US- funded Ford Foundation, noting they were slowed down due to protests by Gen Z which rocked the country. “The Foundation’s activities are justified in the country and are on” Whitman said, adding she will visit the soapstone industry in South Mugirango and Sameta to assess how the US government will support the industry.
