Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua claims that President William Ruto’s administration is spearheading Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment so as to divert Kenyans from some of the critical issues affecting the country.

Ms Karua claims that the Kenya Kwanza administration is dotted with cases of violation of human rights, economic sabotage, denial of rights to healthcare and education, and attempts to extend the presidential term among others.

Ms Karua holds that the recent public participation exercise held over DP Gachagua’s impeachment motion revealed that the entire Kenya Kwanza government stood impeached by Kenyans.

“If the Ruto regime had hoped to divert national attention from the critical issues of the day namely – the gross violations of human rights, economic sabotage through the opaque and unconstitutional Adani deals, the denial of access to health through SHIF, the denial of right to education and the conspiracy to extend the presidential term, it failed miserably as citizens demonstrated they are woken and knowledgeable,” she said.

The Narc-Kenya party leader spoke in Nairobi on Monday during a press conference convened on the State of Affairs of the Country.

“Kenyans were with great clarity united in telling both President Ruto and his deputy Gachagua – you both Stand Impeached!” she said.

Ms Karua said that the duo – Dr Ruto and Gachagua – were elected as a pair during the August 9, 2022 General Election and that the impeachment motion is meant to net them as a pair.

“That the presidency and entire government stand impeached by the people of Kenya, has been ably demonstrated by the public participation exercise arranged for the impeachment of Gachagua,” Ms Karua said.

“This exercise ironically turned into an occasion for reminding both Ruto and Gachagua by Kenyans across the country with a united message that both stand impeached. They came in as a pair and Kenyans want them to leave as a pair,” she added. She said President Ruto is accountable for the crisis that the country is facing.

“In light of these grave transgressions, it is not only our right but our constitutional duty to hold the President accountable. Impeachment is not an action taken lightly, but when the highest office in the land becomes a vessel for undermining the Constitution and the welfare of the people, it becomes an imperative,” the seasoned politician said.

“Though this impeachment motion will not be tabled before Parliament – which, as far as we are concerned, stood dissolved by the sovereign will of the people on June 25 – we present these charges to the highest institution in our Republic: the collective conscience of Kenya, the hearts and minds of the people,” she continued.
