Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has revealed that he will reject three of the cabinet secretaries nominated by President William Ruto to join the broad-based cabinet.

In a statement shared on Instagram on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, Salasya claimed that Kithure Kindiki, Aden Duale and Davis Chirchir who were in the disbanded cabinet failed Kenyans in their respective dockets.

The youthful lawmaker further accused Kindiki of not protecting the young anti-government protesters from police brutality during his tenure as the CS for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration. He also faulted Duale for deploying the Kenya Defence Force to the streets during demonstrations before parliament’s approval and Chirchir for not being transparent with information on the government-to-government deal.

Mimi Nita( I will ) rejects Kindiki for allowing our young people to be killed by police. I will reject Duale for bad intentions of bringing KDF to the streets. Davis Chirchir must explain this animal of G to G because up to now no one has information and it never benefited anyone other than a few cartels,” Salasya said.

The three cabinet nominees were part of the 21 cabinet secretaries who were fired in the previous cabinet. Kindiki was the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration and he has been nominated to the same docket.

Duale was heading the Ministry of Defence and has been nominated to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry while Chirchir was the Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum in the previous cabinet and has been nominated to the Ministry of Transport and Roads.

ODM’s Cabinet nominees

The Democratic Action Party -Kenya (DAP-K) lawmaker criticised the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), an affiliate party in the Azimio coalition, for telling them to okay all the cabinet nominees.

According to Salasya, ODM wants them to approve all the appointees because their members are part of the nomination.

“ODM wants us to pass all this just because they have theirs,” he stated.

Wycliffe Oparanya was nominated to the Ministry of Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development, Ali Hassan Joho to the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, Opiyo Wandayi to Energy and Petroleum and John Mbadi to Cabinet Secretary Ministry National Treasury.

If approved by the National Assembly, they will be part of Ruto’s broad-based cabinet.
