Nyamira youth call on governor to deal with county issues
Youth in Nyamira County have petitioned Governor Amos Nyaribo to deal with rampant corruption and nepotism among over ten other demands.
The group, terming itself Nyamira Gen-Z, has also demanded the sacking of the County Executive Committee member in charge of gender, culture and sports Dr Grace Nyamongo who they claimed was not addressing the problems and challenges facing the youths in the county.
Demands and grievances
In a petition read by Edward Machuki, the group issues 18 demands which they want him to address and implement fully, if he wants peace with them
According to them, the Governor is expected to respond to these demands and grievances within seven days, failure to which they could take to the streets daily demanding for his resignation so as to pave the way for new leadership which can address the challenges and other critical problems facing them and the people of Nyamira county .
“We will only recognize and respect your government if you address our petition failure to which we will take to the streets twice a week until you give in to our demands” Machuki stated.
The Gen-Z accused the Nyaribo government of being riddled with rampant corruption, nepotism and clanssism.
They also accused Nyaribo of sidelining the youths when it comes to employment opportunities and the awarding of tenders and vowed that they could only recognise his government if they are given their rightful share in his government.
Governor Nyaribo has also been asked to account for the funds allocated for Manga stadium, governor’s headquarter and residence and other projects which have now stalled, the promotion of county employees among them the medics, ECDE teachers and casual workers .
They also demanded for the immediate dissolution of the County Public Service Board, which they termed as rotten, and as being the centre and nerve of corruption when it comes to employment and promotions.
Responding to the claims, governor Nyaribo pleaded with the Gen-Z to give him one week so that he can give them a detailed response to their demands.
