Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) Moses Kuria was on Saturday, July 6, 2024, forced to cut short his speech after a charged crowd attending the funeral of politician Maina Wanjigi in Nyeri County booed him.

The agitated crowd chanted “Ruto must go” as he struggled to give his speech, forcing him to cut his address and leave the podium.

Before being booed, Kuria paid the deceased a tribute, honouring the role he played in shaping the history of the country and the institutions he led which could play a significant role in the country’s economy.

He particularly explained the role Wanjigi played in the Industrial and Commercial Development Corporation (ICDC).

“I have come here to mourn with the family of this hero. And I have come here because the history of this country cannot be erased. In the history of this country, Maina Wanjigi’s place is cast in stone. Not just because of contemporary politics that we know.

“I remember the generation that worked with Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, especially the people who laid the foundation for the economy and the institutions they built, which could play an important role in the economic challenges we are grappling with. I recall the role he played in ICDC,” Kuria said before the hostile crowd charged at him with anti-Ruto slogans.

Other leaders drawn from the political class who attended the funeral include Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga, and Jimi Wanjigi.
