‘Tore Bobe’ eye Pamzo
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League outfit Shabana FC are on the verge of naming Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo as their permanent head coach.
A top Tore Bobe official confirmed to People Sports that they have already engaged the former Gor Mahia defender to take charge of the team and that the talks are in an advanced stage.
“It is true we have engaged Omollo with an offer to take over as our head coach, we are still negotiating and we hope the deal will be sealed before our next league match,” the official, who did not want to be named, said, adding: “We are working on a two-year contract, and if all goes well, he will be in the dugout when we play our next match.”
On why Shabana had settled on Omollo, the source said: “He (Omollo) has good experience coaching in the league, and we are confident he is the right man for the job, we want a coach with experience to take us forward and Omollo is one of the best coaches in Kenya.”
When reached for comment, Omollo confirmed to People Sports that he had indeed been approached by Shabana to take over the role but denied having been appointed already as per reports on social media.
“I haven’t been appointed yet as the new Shabana coach, we are still talking and nothing tangible has been reached, but I am hoping all the parties will reach an agreement soon,” said Omollo, whose last coaching stint was with the league side Kenya Police, where he was fired following a string of poor results to be replaced by Zdravko Logarusic.
Apart from Kenya Police, the 53-year-old Omollo has also handled Tusker, whom he guided to clinch the league title in the 2012 campaign, Mahakama, Oserian, Gor Mahia, East Bengal in India, KCB, and Posta Rangers.
Tore Bobe are in the market for a new coach following the sacking of Sammy Okoth, who helped the team return to the top-flight after 17 years in the cold. Okoth was fired after nine matches and was replaced by his assistant Oscar Kambona on an interim basis.
Shabana are currently placed in position 15 of the 18-team table with 10 points from 12 matches. They have managed two wins, drawn four, and lost six. Shabana’s only wins in the league came against Tusker 1-0 and Nzoia Sugar, whom they defeated 2-1.
