Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya, has publicly expressed his disappointment after being removed from a key parliamentary committee.

In a video shared via his official Instagram on Thursday, March 6, 2025, Salasya voiced his bitterness regarding the shift from the Regional Integration Committee to the Broadcasting and Library Services Committee, before being moved back to the Welfare and Food Committee in the cafeteria section.

“I was removed from the committee on Regional Integration and placed in the Broadcasting and library services and taken back to welfare and food in the cafeteria,” Salasya said.

The outspoken parliamentarian went on to say that the reshuffle would not hinder his ability to deliver impactful development to his constituents. According to him, his skills in planning will continue to drive progress in his region, regardless of committee assignments.

“I want to tell those Members of Parliament who think that removing us from committees will stop us from delivering development, it will not happen, because I am a good planner,” he added.

He further emphasized the importance of effective resource management and expressed confidence in his ability to deliver to his constituents through the use of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

“With the available CDF and proper management and supervision, we will still emerge among the top performers in this country,” Salasya added.

Committee reshuffle

Apart from Salasya, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro was also demoted from his position as Chair of the Budget and Appropriations Committee to serve as an ordinary member following a motion moved by South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro.

“Over 90 members showed interest in being members of the budget and appropriations committee, which was not very easy. 90, yet the provision of standing orders only provides for 27, so the only way one can balance such is through coming up with a formula, and that formula is regional issues, the question of gender, the question of political affiliation, and negotiations.

“That is why we urge this house to support this list as it is. But even as we move forward, there has also been a lot of politics as far as the formation is concerned…. The members that have been selected upon being passed will sit down within seven days and elect their own chairpersons,” Osoro said.

Others who faced similar demotions include Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, who was removed as Chairperson of the Constitutional Oversight and Implementation Committee and reassigned to the Members’ Services Committee, Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, and Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo.
