Here is what you need to know in order to get up to speed with today’s happenings.
African Climate Summit concludes
The African Climate Summit is set to conclude on Wednesday at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), with Ali Mohamed, Kenya’s Envoy for Climate Change, leading the session.
The lineup of speakers for the day includes Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of UNFCCC, Shamma Al Mazroui, COP28 Youth Climate Champion, Elizabeth Wathuti from the African Youth Assembly, Priscillah Akchapa representing the Women Environment Programme in Nigeria, Selwin Hart, Special Adviser to the UNSG on Climate Action, and Kate Hampton, CEO of the Children’s Investment Foundation Fund.
The culmination of the event will involve the adoption of a declaration and high-level statements. The co-chairs for this summit are Moussa Faki, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Azali Assoumani, President of Comoros, and William Ruto, the President of Kenya.
African Parliamentarians Dialogue
Additionally, on Wednesday, the National Assembly will host the Africa Climate Change Parliamentary Dialogue.
Speakers of both Houses, Moses Wetang’ula from the National Assembly and Amason Kingi from the Senate will preside over this parliamentary meeting.
The aim of this dialogue session is to bring together leading African Parliamentarians responsible for climate action in their respective Parliaments to discuss the role of Parliaments in achieving the goals of the Summit.
The two House Speakers emphasized that the Dialogue will focus on areas for enhancing the capacity of Parliamentarians to provide effective oversight for the implementation of climate actions. It will also result in the adoption of a statement by Parliamentarians at the African Climate Summit.
Kenya men’s volleyball team match three
In sports, Kenya Men’s Volleyball are aiming to redeem themselves in the CAVB Africa Cup as they face Ghana in their third match.
The team has faced challenges with two losses in their previous matches, including a recent 3-0 sets defeat to Libya in Cairo, Egypt.
This loss follows a 3-1 sets defeat to 2021 silver medallists Cameroon on Monday, leaving Kenya with a tough task in Group C.
