In the opening round of the Prinsloo 7s tournament held at Nakuru Athletic Club, Kenya Cup Champions Kabras Sugar, KCB Rugby, and Prinsloo 7s holders Menengai Oilers displayed their prowess picking wins.

Kabras Sugar had to stage a remarkable comeback from being 7-19 down to secure a thrilling 21-19 victory.

Lameck Ambetsa, Jone Kubu, and Dan Angwech were instrumental in scoring Kabras’ tries, with Eric Cantona and Kubu contributing with crucial conversions.

Homeboyz, however, put up a spirited fight, with Ramadhan Masete scoring twice and Brian Mutua adding a third, while Brayan Juma executed two conversions in the loss.

In another exciting match, Western Bulls pulled off an upset with a 14-12 win against Kisumu RFC. Anthony Oduor and Nickson Manduku scored tries for Western Bulls, and Byrum Mukhonyi added two conversions. Kisumu managed tries through Washington Ochieng and Walter Ambe as consolation.

Menengai Oilers edge Nakuru

Pool B saw defending Champions Menengai Oilers edge past their opponents Nakuru RFC with a narrow 5-0 victory, courtesy of Beldad Ogeta’s solitary try.

Catholic Monks, on the other hand, clinched a 19-14 win over Nondies. Victor Omupere’s brace and Isaac Kubasu’s try, along with Eric Ogutu’s two conversions, powered the Monks to victory. F

idens Tony scored a try and two conversions for Nondies, while Charles Odhiambo touched down once.

KCB Rugby dominated in Pool C, defeating MMUST with a commanding 36-7 scoreline. Edmund Anya and Levy Amunga scored two tries each, with Vincent Onyala and Austine Sikutwa contributing one try each.

Brian Wahinya and Amunga ensured three successful conversions. Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) managed a sole try from Paywick Munoko, converted by Byron Ogada.

Prinsloo 7s Pool C

Pool C’s opening fixture was a thrilling encounter, with Blak Blad and Kenya Harlequin playing to an intense 26-26 draw.

Quins took an early lead, with tries from Paul Mutsami, Tony Khadambi, Charlton Mokua, and Dave Mwaura, all converted by Amon Wamalwa.

Blak Blad fought back with tries from Arthur Gundaru, Saleh Wesonga, Jared Odhiambo, and Derrick Masese, while Ian Kitutu executed three successful conversions.

Mwamba Rugby Club secured a hard-fought 10-7 victory over the Zetech Oaks in Pool D, with Chrispin Omondi scoring two unconverted tries.

The Zetech Oaks managed a try from Anderson Oduor, converted by Brayan Ondego.

Strathmore Leos began their campaign on a high note, defeating Daystar Falcons 24-12.
