Gachagua accuses police of orchestrating Albert Ojwang’s death

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pointed the finger at Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, accusing him of orchestrating the brutal death of Albert Ojwang, a young Kenyan allegedly killed by police.
Gachagua’s scathing remarks, posted on X on Monday, June 9, 2025, have reignited public outrage over the deaths of young Kenyans.
The former DP minced no words, claiming Lagat must “take full responsibility for this murder.”
The DCP party leader states that Ojwang was moved from Homa Bay to Nairobi’s Central Police Station, a facility Gachagua claims Lagat personally oversees, describing it as one of the new torture chambers alongside Kamukunji Police Station.
“Suspending junior officers at Central Police Station is hoodwinking Kenyans,” Gachagua fumed, demanding Lagat’s immediate suspension to allow for impartial investigations.
Lagat’s overreach and past misdeeds
The politician also accused Lagat of overstepping his authority, operating the two stations without the knowledge of the Inspector General of Police.
Gachagua also linked Lagat to an earlier incident, claiming the DIG ordered police to withdraw from a church service in Mwiki on 6 April 2025, allowing goons to attack him and congregants.
“This is the same Eliud Lagat in charge of Police Cells,” he wrote.

Gachagua’s post struck a chord with many Kenyans, particularly the youth, who have grown weary of what he calls a blood-based government thriving on the deaths of Gen Zs.
“There has been no worse mutilation of our freedoms in Kenya than under this regime,” he declared, accusing Ruto’s administration of betraying its oath to protect lives.
“William and your cabal, how many gallons of blood do you want to be okay?” Gachagua demanded, addressing the President.
The claims have intensified calls for justice for Ojwang, with Gachagua pledging solidarity with his family and the people of Homa Bay.
