Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly condemned President William Ruto’s administration, describing certain actions as unforgivable.

Speaking during a church function in Nyandarua on February 15, 2025, Gachagua delivered an emotionally charged address that addressed various grievances and called for spiritual intervention to aid in forgiveness.

He specifically highlighted the challenges of forgiving those responsible for the abduction and killing of innocent youths.

“The kidnapping and killing of our children—that’s something we’re finding hard to forgive. These children are innocent; they are our children,” Gachagua said, addressing the bishops present.

“You tell us to forgive, and we’ve agreed, but forgiving those who kidnap and kill our innocent children—perhaps if you pray for us today, pray to see if you can cleanse our hearts,” he added.

Gachagua, who was impeached from his position last year, pointed to the economic hardships faced by their supporters as an unforgettable issue.

“Those who betrayed our community, those who promised to put money in our pockets but then took away the little we had – we can forgive, but can we forget? We cannot,” Gachagua said.

The former Deputy President expressed particular bitterness toward individuals who, he claims, turned their backs on him after receiving electoral support.

“We were there helping someone get votes, and then after reaching there, they said, ‘Take back your votes.’ We’ve agreed to forgive everyone completely, but forgetting is difficult,” he said.

Pray for me

In an emotional appeal to the religious leaders present, Gachagua requested prayers to help him forgive what he sees as betrayals of public trust.

“We’ll try to forgive, but there’s one thing we are having a problem with—maybe Bishop, you’ll pray for us. There’s one thing we are unable to forgive,” he emphasized.

Gachagua also warned that future political alliances in the Mount Kenya region would be scrutinized more carefully.

“We will be very careful in the future before accepting someone we don’t know well. We will examine slowly and pray to God to help us so that we know whom we are dealing with because what we’ve seen has caused great loss to everyone,” he added.
