Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has urged Agoro Sare Boys High School football to go for the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) football National title.

Wanga hosted the Nyanza Region Football champions alongside their basketball team, Ototo Girls Basket Ball team and Miranga Girls who emerged victorious in the girls’ handball category.

Homa Bay proud of Agoro Sare

Speaking at her office compound, Wanga said that as a County, they are proud of the Agoro Sare Football team which she said has put the County on the National map.

“As a County, we are very proud of you for your achievement in the recently held regional sports since you have put our County on the regional and even National map,” said the Governor.

“As a County, we promised that we will always be on top, we will never be looked for from the bottom to top, but from top to bottom and I want to urge you champions to go for the trophy and bring it home,” added Wanga.

Agoro Sare Boys emerged victorious in the boys’ football category in the recently held Nyanza Region ball games after thrashing Kisumu Day Secondary School in penalties to book a slot at the National level slated for next week in Kakamega County.

“As you go for the National games remember as known in the Nation, Homa Bay is one of the top Counties and I want to challenge you to prove this by beating other teams which will be representing other Counties, this will really make us proud,” she said.

Homabay best soccer players

Wanga said Homa Bay take pride in some of the best soccer players who ply their trade at the international level and this should also be replicated among the youngsters.

“Remember we have one of the best soccer stars such as Michael Olunga. Our County is also the home of the 20 times Kenya Premier League champions, Gor Mahia, I am sure you are going to emerge victorious,” she added.

Wanga was accompanied by her deputy Oyugi Magwanga, sports CEC Sarah Malit, and County Secretary Ben Muok among other dignitaries.

Magwanga on his side congratulated the teams which qualified for the National completion saying Homa Bay has always become a County of champions and challenged the teams to ensure they should go for National and East African titles.

He, however, told them that these can only be achieved if the students maintain a high level of discipline and are highly dedicated in their activities.

“I want to congratulate, appreciate and encourage you for your achievements but remember to remain disciplined and dedicated and every aspect of life,” said Magwanga.
