In a scathing statement, the Thirdway Alliance Party has launched a blistering attack on President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of orchestrating state-sponsored violence, ethnic persecution, and gross human rights violations.

The party is now calling for the immediate resignation of President Ruto, his Deputy Kithure Kindiki, and top security chiefs, citing, complicity in extrajudicial killings, abductions, and ethnic profiling.

“We issue this statement with profound grief and firm resolve on behalf of the citizens of Kenya who are now facing the full wrath of a state that has turned its weapons on its own people,” the party said in the statement on X official account on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

According to Thirdway Alliance, what began as peaceful protests by mostly young and unarmed Kenyans has spiraled into a brutal crackdown by state agencies. The faction says the government has abandoned dialogue and constitutionalism in favor of “brutality over dialogue, bullets over empathy, and terror over constitutionalism.”

The opposition party, known for its grassroots-driven Punguza Mizigo campaign, painted a grim picture of a nation under siege—not by foreign enemies, but by its own elected leaders.

“Peaceful protestors have been shot, abducted, tortured, and disappeared,” the statement stated, noting that the list of the dead grows longer by the day.

It also raised alarms over what it described as an orchestrated campaign targeting members of the Agikuyu community. This, they say, includes the looting and destruction of Agikuyu-owned businesses, selective arrests based on ethnicity, and incitement through state-linked propaganda.

“This is a deliberate attempt to divide Kenyans and deflect public attention from the root causes of the current resistance. The state cannot respond to peaceful dissent and poverty with bullets,” read the statement.

Religion and ethinicity

The party accused President Ruto of using religious symbolism to mask the regime’s failings, specifically criticizing his much-publicized plan to build a church at State House.

“Yet his administration’s conduct bears no resemblance to Christian compassion, justice, or truth. The same regime that recites prayers on Sundays is the one that orders abductions and justifies killings during the week. The hypocrisy is stinking,” said Ekuru Aukot, the party leader.

In one of the most damning sections of the statement, the party said that security forces are operating in collusion with criminal gangs to terrorize citizens.

“Numerous credible reports and videos have confirmed that some police officers and hired goons are operating side-by-side, terrorizing protestors, looting property, and suppressing peaceful unarmed protests,” it said.

Aukot singled out the deployment of masked gunmen in unmarked Subaru vehicles, who it said are abducting and executing citizens with impunity.

“President Ruto and the Inspector General of Police owe the nation an explanation: Why are they comfortable with masked, nameless killers operating in our streets?” the statement posed.

At the heart of the party’s demands is a call for accountability and justice. They are holding the President and his Deputy personally responsible for the violence and for failing to protect lives and uphold the Constitution.

“They have mocked and victim-shamed bereaved families… and presided over ethnic targeting. Their continued presence in office is an insult to the Constitution, a provocation to peace-loving citizens, and a threat to national unity,” the faction charged.

“That President William Ruto and his Deputy Kithure Kindiki resign immediately, for presiding over a regime of murder, repression, ethnic persecution, and impunity.”
