Uasin Gishu county assembly has become the latest to adjourn its sittings indefinitely joining other 19 across the country which have shut down demanding salary increments.

The move was taken even as the County Executive in charge of Finance and Economic Planning Micah Rogony was set to present the Annual Budget Proposal before the County Assembly.

The adjournment motion was presented by the leader of Majority Julius Sang and seconded by the leader of minority Francis Muya.

“We hereby adjourn indefinitely following a resolution arrived at by the County Assemblies Forum (CAF) held in Nairobi, the Salaries and Remuneration Commission must revisit the Sh10,000 pay increase to the Honourable MCAs which is a mockery to the position they hold and the duties bestowed upon them,” said Sang.

The ward representatives questioned the rationale behind SRC awarding them a salary of close to Sh86,000 against colossal amounts of money earned by the governor, the county ministers and chief officers ranging between Sh 500,000 and Sh 1,000,000 demanding the correct job placement from the current job group M attracting the current salaries.
