Roots Party leader and 2022 presidential contender George Luchiri Wajackoyah has lifted the lid on his rocky experience with the Azimio la Umoja coalition, saying he was treated as an outsider during his time with the alliance.

“When I was with the Azimio Coalition, they did not want to listen to me. They saw me as inferior, and I was like a spectator following them around,” Wajackoyah posted on X on Monday, June 16, 2025.

The outspoken politician, known for his unorthodox political style and bold remarks, said the treatment left him feeling sidelined despite being a presidential candidate in the last general election.

Wajackoyah’s Kenya Kwanza offer

Earlier on the same day in an interview with a media house, Wajackoyah explained that he has since chosen to stand on his own as the Roots Party leader, open to working with others only if there is meaningful engagement on issues.

“At the moment, I’m on my own as Roots Party, unless someone comes to talk to me about the party’s agenda. Why should I join? Our party has agreed that there is nothing wrong with joining a coalition as long as we agree on relevant issues,” he stated.

Wajackoyah also revealed that he has recently been approached by Kenya Kwanza officials who are trying to woo him into joining the government. He claimed the offers came with promises of wealth, power, and land.

“Recently, the Ruto group offered me a lot of money. Some governor came to me and offered me to join with the promise of a CS position, and others have been telling me to join them with goodies that we shall send you a helicopter and give you a 150-acre parcel of land around Narok,” he disclosed.

However, Wajackoyah firmly declined the advances, saying he would only consider the proposal if it came directly from President William Ruto.

“I said no. Why? Who are you? Why can’t Ruto himself pick up his phone and call me over the same?” he added.

His comments come just a day after Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka also rejected government overtures. Kalonzo, who has been a vocal figure in the opposition, dismissed the approach as dishonest and politically motivated.

“I will never work with this blood-based regime,” Kalonzo posted on his X account on Sunday, June 15. “Let no one be misled by those peddling falsehoods and attempting to use my name to sanitise injustice.”
