Thika town receives Sh5.7b for upgrade to city status
As it eyes city status, Thika town in Kiambu has received Sh5.7 billion for a major infrastructural face-lift.
Governor Kimani Wamatangi said the money has already been credited to the county accounts and will first fix perennial water scarcity in the industrious town, the sorry state of roads among other infrastructural challenges.
Wamatangi who spoke during the county’s second clean-up exercise revealed that a large chunk of the money will be spent on increasing water capacity and connectivity and will see all homes and industries in the entire constituency get connected with clean and sufficient water as a key enabler of the elevation plan.
Water connectivity
“We managed to lobby for funding from the national government because we have the plan to increase water connectivity and supply for all residents and factories within Thika. We don’t just don’t intend to upgrade Thika to a city, our elaborate plan is to expedite the establishment of key infrastructural developments to get us there,” said Wamatangi.
He revealed that while his administration has embarked on the development of key projects, the national government also has its eyes on Thika and is undertaking projects.
