Raila: Gachagua has orchestrated plan to cause counter-demonstrations during Azimio protests
Azimio leader Raila Odinga has revealed that deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has orchestrated a plan to sabotage Azimio demos set for Monday, March 27, 2023.
Speaking during a presser held at Capital Hill offices on Thursday, March 23, 2023, the former prime minister alleged that Gachagua convened a meeting at his Karen residence with an aim to disrupt the demos.
He claims that the meeting was attended by National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Kiharu Member of Parliament (MP) Ndindi Nyoro.
The opposition chief insisted that the Tuesday, March 21, 2023, meeting which was attended by several youths invited by Gachagua was a ploy to counter-demonstrators and sabotage their subsequent demonstrations.
“Rigathi Gachagua convened a meeting at his residence in Karen, in attendance were Kimani Ichung’wah and Ndindi Nyoro, they invited several youths from different parts of the country to that meeting and that meeting turned out to be a strategy session to plan to counter the demonstrators on Monday,” he said.
According to Raila, the youths aforementioned were also handed uniforms that resembled those of his supporters under the Movement for the Defence of Democracy (MDD) as a strategy to masquerade as them and cause chaos.
He further opined that the youths were specifically instructed to cause disruptions and harm people so that they taint his name and subsequently give the International Criminal Court (ICC) enough grounds to charge Azimio MPs arrested.
Additionally, the Azimio supremo reiterated that his faction only stood for peaceful demonstrations and not bloodshed.
“The plan, according to the information we have, is that these youth are going to be given uniforms similar to those of the MDD, our movement. Then they will mix with our youth and accompany them throughout the demonstrations,” he added.
