Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) Didmus Barasa has expressed scepticism about the political futures of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka as Kenya approaches the 2027 general elections.

Barasa, a close ally of President William Ruto, has been vocal in his criticism of the duo and believes that they would be politically defeated by Ruto and Raila Odinga before 8:00 am on voting day in 2027.

In a statement shared on his official X account on Sunday, June 1, 2025, the vocal parliamentarian echoed Ruto’s call for a landslide victory in the upcoming general elections against the opposition.

Hawa ndio mnaita Notam na Wantam? I want to categorically state that Wamunyoro and Watermelon will be cooked by Ruto & Raila before 8:00 am on voting day pale 2027,” Barasa said.

Barasa’s remarks come amid reports of the opposition leaders engaging in talks to form a political coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, aiming to challenge Ruto’s administration. However, Barasa remains confident that their efforts will be futile, asserting that their political ambitions will be thwarted early on election day.

2027 presidential election

Barasa’s statement aligns with Ruto’s recent remarks, where he confidently dismissed opposition parties as lacking a coherent agenda for the nation.

Speaking in Kisumu Town on Thursday, May 29, 2025, Ruto stated that the opposition has no plan or agenda for the Kenyan citizens, adding that he will win the 2027 general elections by a landslide against them.

“These are people who have no vision, no plan, and no agenda. We will show them dust; they won’t believe,” he stated.

Furthermore, he criticised the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), led by Rigathi Gachagua, for its party slogans, saying it lacks a vision.

“All they know is slogans: ‘Ruto must go,’ ‘Kasongo’, ‘Wantam…’ And I want to tell you we are going to move this country forward,” he stated.

On the other hand, Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua exuded confidence that the opposition team will form the next government after the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during the homecoming ceremony of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka at his Tseikuru home on Thursday, May 29, 2025, Gachagua indicated that he had done his political calculations and was assured of a victory in the 2027 polls.

“I want to assure you that this opposition outfit will form the next government, and Kalonzo Musyoka will be part of that administration,” Gachagua said amidst thunderous applause from the audience.

“There is no cause for alarm, as there is enough space for all of us in the next government,” he added.
