Gachagua confident in forming next govt with Kalonzo

Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has exuded confidence in forming the next government after the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the homecoming ceremony of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka at his Tseikuru home on Thursday, May 29, 2025, Gachagua indicated that he had done his political calculations and was assured of a victory in the 2027 polls.
“I want to assure you that this opposition outfit will form the next government, and Kalonzo Musyoka will be part of that administration,” Gachagua said amidst thunderous applause from the audience.
“There is no cause for alarm, as there is enough space for all of us in the next government,” he added.
Voter registration
During the ceremony, the former deputy president urged the youth to register as voters in their numbers, observing that they stand to determine the outcome of the 2027 election.
“All the people who were disrespected by the ruling government have come together to challenge this regime in the 2027 polls. I want you to teach Ruto a lesson by voting him out through the ballot,” Gachagua stated.

“Wherever I am is the side of victory. I am not an ordinary person; I am a political scientist,” Gachagua remarked.
On his part, Kalonzo indicated that part of the agenda of the new government would be to spur economic growth by increasing the disposable income of salaried Kenyans.
Kalonzo said this would be achieved by scrapping the affordable housing levy, among other deductions introduced by the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Kalonzo equally noted that the next election would be determined by the Gen Zs’ votes, adding that they will need at least 100,000 youth to guard the presidential votes at all the polling stations in the country.
“I am sounding a warning to President Ruto not to attempt to interfere with the outcome of the 2027 election,” Kalonzo said.
IEBC nominees
Kalonzo has been at the forefront of opposing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) nominees set to be approved by the National Assembly.

On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Kalonzo indicated that the IEBC nominees must be agreed upon jointly with the opposition leaders as envisaged in the National Dialogue Committee, which he co-chaired with Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah.
“For avoidance of doubt, should the UDA/ODM Alliance proceed with the appointment of the IEBC chairperson and commissioners without the meaningful participation of the Opposition, such an action will be deemed as an attempt to establish a partisan electoral body,” Kalonzo stated.
Meanwhile, the opposition politicians got a major boost after former Meru governor Peter Munya joined the outfit, further reinforcing Gachagua’s influence in the vote-rich Mount Kenya region.
