The Azimio La Umoja Coalition now wants National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to make an official pronouncement on its request to make changes on its parliamentary leadership.

The coalition wants Wetang’ula to urgently  intervene on the matter to enable the opposition outfit  de-whip nine MPs who have shifted allegiance to President William Ruto.

The move comes  after attempts by Azimio  to make changes to various house committees two weeks ago  was blocked by Kenya Kwanza group, the majority side in Parliament.

Leader of Minority Opiyo Wandayi (above)told Wetang’ula to make a determination on  whether choices and decisions of a Parliamentary Party or Coalition on its representation in House Committees are an exclusive mandate and a preserve of the respective party or coalition or a function to be shared by other parties or coalitions in the House.

In addition, he also demanded Wetang’ula rules on  whether members of the Majority Party in the Committee on Selection that places members in various committees can veto, challenge or oppose changes to House Committee membership proposed by the Minority Party.

He also wants Wetang’ula to rule on whether parliamentary parties would be granted powers to reject or challenge each other’s decisions especially on appointment or changes in appointment of House Committee membership

“We invite you to find that the Majority Party membership in the Committee on Selection has fallen foul of this principle in the instant matter. Finally, Honourable Speaker, we invite you to apply your mind and vast experience to this matter and deliver a considered ruling that will not only unlock the unnecessary stalemate but also preserve the integrity and credibility of the institution of the National Assembly,” he says in his letter to the Speaker.
