‘Don’t play the oversight role before we clean up the mess’ – Gachagua tells opposition
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has now asked Kenyans to be patient with the new administration stating that they need time to clean the economic mess left by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The DP who was speaking during a thanksgiving service in Kericho County on Sunday, October 16, 2022, affirmed that the current administration was facing an uphill task of restoring the country’s economy, noting that the ‘mess’ cannot be undone in 30 days.
“We can not clean up the economic mismanagement of 5 years in 30 days. What we are doing right now is cleaning up their mess,” Gachagua stated.
He also criticized opposition leaders who were already ‘vetting’ their administration arguing that they should only oversight their work after the ‘mess’ is cleared.
“You cannot oversight as we clean up the mess some people led us into. Once we are done cleaning, you can start your oversight on our programs,” he added.
While maintaining that they ‘inherited’ a collapsing economy, the second-in-command alluded that the administration had already started delivering its mandate such as taking charge of public service and removing it from politics.
“Tumetoa public service kwa siasa, chiefs warudi kazi, KRA pesa iokotwe ya serikali we will prioritize projects, once we finish cleaning this mess then opposition can now begin the oversight role,” the DP said.
“We have even told the county commissioners to refrain from politics and serve Kenyans as they should,” the DP added.
