President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced the first sitting of the 13th parliament.

In a gazette notice, both the National Assembly (NA) and the Senate will be back in action on Thursday, September 8, 2022.

The two Houses of Parliament shall sit concurrently from 9 am on Thursday in their respective debating chambers.

“In exercise of the power conferred to me I appoint that the first sitting of the National Assembly and the Senate shall be held on the 8th September 2022 at 9 am,” part of the gazette notice read.

The President’s move is in line with Article 126 (2) of the constitution and comes after the conclusion of the August 9, 2022, general election and the gazettement of the MPs-elect in the two Houses by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The first order of business for the two Houses shall be the swearing-in of the MPs and Senators-elect, who will then go ahead to elect their respective Speakers.
