Struggling Mathare United have one last chance to save themselves from relegation and retain their status in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League starting today when they host Sofapaka at Kasarani.

Having been awarded two walkovers, if they fail to grace today’s match, they will automatically be relegated for failing to honour three matches in a row according to FKF rules.

Bottom placed

The slum boys are bottom placed in the league with only 11 points after 28 matches.

With six games remaining, they need to win all of them to score 29 points. That could save them the blushes if other results from other teams favour them in the long run.

Heading to today’s encounter with Sofapaka, Mathare United has not won any of their last five matches, painting a glimmer of facing the chop.

Last week, they failed for the first time in the club’s history to honour a match which they blamed on financial constraints.

“For the first time in history, Mathare United will forfeit a game and will not be able to host Saturday’s Premier League encounter against Bandari that was scheduled to be played at the Kasarani Stadium Annex from 3pm,” read the official club statement on Saturday’s league game against Bandari FC.
