President Uhuru Kenyatta is today leading Kenyans in celebrating the 58th Jamhuri Day celebrations in Nairobi.

Today’s ceremony which is Uhuru’s ninth and final in office is being held at the historic Uhuru Gardens along Langata Road.

The grounds which had been closed for several months for refurbishing was opened today to host around 11,000 guests who joined in the celebrations.

Jamhuri Day is one of the recognised public holidays by the country’s constitution. The others are Madaraka (June 1) in remembrance of the day the country attained independence and Mashujaa (October 20).

Unlike the two whose celebrations have been held in various counties, Jamhuri day has always been celebrated in Nairobi.

Last year, during the 57th Jamhuri Day, the President asked Kenyans to always work for the good of the nation.
