Ruto expected back

President William Ruto is expected to return to the country after completing his German tour on Saturday, September 14, 2024.

While Ruto is expected to jet out again for the September 22, 2024, United Nations meeting in New York, his return from Germany will present an opportunity to unpack the major deals signed during his two-day tour of Europe’s biggest economy.

During his visit, Ruto was accompanied by senior government officials alongside the African Union Commission (AUC) chairman candidate, Raila Odinga, who spoke German during one of the roundtable engagements.

Mt Kenya politics

With increasing political pressure mounting on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, his critics and supporters are expected to react following a massive declaration in which 48 legislators shifted their allegiance to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as the region’s point man and direct link to Ruto.

Reactions are expected to pour in from the Sunday, September 15, 2024 gatherings, with die-hards of Gachagua maintaining that he is the senior-most influential political figure in the region.

Masengeli sentencing

Following Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli’s conviction and sentencing to serve six months in prison for contempt of court charges, a section of leaders from Western Kenya have already come to his defence.

The move by the court is set to be one of the topics expected to dominate the national debate on Sunday.

In a blatant disregard of the judgement by Justice Lawrence Mugambi, Masengeli continued carrying out his official duties on Friday, September 13, 2024. The IG was directed to surrender himself to the Commissioner General – Kenya Prisons to serve his sentence.
