Senators to grill Treasury CS John Mbadi over e-Citizen glitches

Cabinet Secretary (CS) for National Treasury and Economic Planning John Mbadi is expected to appear before the Senate Business Committee on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, to answer questions relating to the Ministry.

Mbadi is expected to shed light on various issues in the Treasury Ministry such as the failure of the e-Citizen digital platform to process payments made to some government institutions.

Mbadi is also expected to shed light on the financing and utilization of the national government and development budget for the Financial Year 2022/2023.

He will also be required to respond to concerns over delayed processing of pension benefits to retired civil servants.

Chirchir to be grilled

Roads and Transport CS Davis Chirchir is also expected to appear before the Senate Business Committee and shed light on stalled projects among other issues.

“National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir are expected to appear before the Senate this morning to reply to senators’ questions,” the Senate stated.

Chirchir will be replying to various questions raised by the Senators such as the reconstruction of transport infrastructure affected by the April/May 2024 rains and floods.

He will also be required to shed more light on the compensation to landowners affected by the construction of the St Mary Kingoto-Gianchuku Mbogori Road.

Also on the list of questions against Chirchir is the status of the upgrading of several roads in the country.

He will also be required to give an update on the status of the upgrading to bitumen standard on the Sigalagala-Butere road.

Chirchir will also give a status update on ongoing projects for the upgrade to bitumen standards of roads in Kirinyaga County.

He will also be required to provide an update on the upgrade of Wang’uru Airstrip and the construction and maintenance of roads in Kajiado County.

Chirchir will also be grilled on the status of putting up road safety infrastructure and features on several roads in the country.
