Wetang’ula hails Team Kenya’s dominant showing at EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has lauded Team Kenya for an outstanding performance at the recently concluded East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary Games held in Kampala, Uganda.

In a congratulatory message posted on X on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, Wetang’ula praised the Kenyan contingent for emerging overall champions after amassing an impressive 20 medals.

Team Kenya’s dominant show

The haul included six gold, six silver and eight bronze medals, underlining Kenya’s dominance across several disciplines. Team Kenya particularly excelled in athletics, volleyball, tug of war, darts and golf, cementing the country’s reputation as a regional sporting powerhouse.

”Hearty congratulations to Team Kenya for emerging the overall winners in the just concluded EAC-Inter Parliamentary Games championship in Kampala, Uganda,” Wetang’ula said.

The Speaker noted that the sterling performance by Members of Parliament and parliamentary staff over the two-week championship was a clear reflection of Kenya’s deep-rooted sporting culture and sustained institutional support for regional sporting competitions.

Wetang’ula further reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to the ideals that inspired the establishment of the EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games, emphasising the role of sports in promoting regional integration. He said the championship continues to provide a platform for strengthening ties among EAC partner states by fostering mutual understanding and regional cooperation.

”Kenya is committed to supporting the dream of the founders of the championship of enhancing regional integration by deepening and tightening existing relations,” he added.

 During earlier stages of the championships, Moses Wetang’ula also hailed the commitment to deepening regional integration following an engagement with fellow Speakers from East African Community (EAC) Parliaments.

Importance of the games

Speaking on the sidelines of the ongoing EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games in Kampala, Uganda, Wetang’ula joined counterparts for a breakfast meeting hosted by the Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, Anita Among, on Monday, December 8, 2025.

Wetang’ula highlighted that the annual EAC Games are not merely a sporting competition but a vital platform for strengthening diplomatic ties and fostering unity among regional lawmakers.

”These games represent more than a sporting contest as they provide a vital platform that brings together legislators from across the region, united in our resolve to strengthen, advance and deepen East African integration,” Wetang’ula took to X.
