Wavinya lauds Kwanthanze Girls after emerging East African champions

Taking to her X page this Friday, August 2025, moments after the volleyball giants’ coronation as the new East African champions for the record eighth time, the governor lauded the girls. their new feat.
The eastern regional champions were forced to battle from a set down to silence formidable archrivals in sets of 3-1.

“Congratulations to the Kwanthanze Girls Volleyball Team for winning the 2025 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Volleyball Girls Championship,” she stated.
The win cemented the queens’ dominance across the region, coming off the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) National Term Two Games title.
Ndeti further hailed the team for thrusting the county’s name and reputation of excellence at the regional championship.
“Your teamwork, determination, and consistency have once again placed Machakos and Kenya at the forefront of regional school games. You are true champions and a shining example of excellence,” she added.
Kesgon clinched the first set on a narrow 23-25 score line. The team rallied to bag the second on a two-point margin, 25-23.
The Machakos County girls, famously known as Kindus, stretched the advantage further with the third set at 25-13.
The final decisive set for the national champions saw them overpower Kesogon 25-18 for the coveted regional title.

In the boys category, a hard-fighting Cheptil Boys High School downed Namugongo of Uganda in 3-2 sets to claim the accolade.
The Kenyan team edged Burundi’s St Luc in the semifinals to guarantee their place in the coveted finals.
The final was a repeat of the preliminary meeting between the two sides, which the Kenyans won on a 3-1 scoreline.
Cheptil and Kwanthanze proceeded to the EA games on a high, having defended the national volleyball titles.
They were joined by Mwalupamba (Coast) and Gogo (Nyanza) in the boys category, as Bishop Sulumeti from the Western region and Soweto from the Nairobi region, among other Kenyan representatives.
