VW Karmann, Alfa Romeo Spider entered for Concours

After a successful WRC Safari Rally in Naivasha last month, the spotlight now shifts to the Africa Concours d’Elegance to be held by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club on September 26 at the Nairobi Racecourse.

Among the entries already listed for what is rated as the classiest event on the motor sport calendar, are two rare Volkswagen Karmann Ghia coupes and a pair of Alfa Romeo Spider sports convertibles.

Long time Concours supporter Paul Chemngorem will be driving along the judging line in front of the Racecourse grand stands in his 1962 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia.

He will be challenged by Tutu Maina one of the young wave of contestants who is working against the clock to build his Karmann Ghia.

It is a credit to the 50th annual Concours to have two of these limited production coupes contesting the up to 1300 cc class.

The star studded sports car class will feature the 1969 Alfa Romeo Spider 1750 of Alec Davis and Tinu Valumbia’s 1972 Spider.

In 2013 the Alfa Romeo sports car now owned by Alec Davis was both the overall and class winner.

These iconic cars are widely acclaimed around the world as one of the best designed machines created by Farina the renowned Italian coach builder.
