Ulinzi Sharks have been crowned the 2025 women’s handball Super Cup champions after a thrilling 27–22 win over Nairobi Water Queens.

The final match was played on August 3, 2025, at Kaloleni Sports Grounds in Nairobi, bringing together the best women’s teams from the National Handball League.

The Kenya Defence Forces’ side put up a brave fight in the tightly contested match. The team put up a spirited fight to break off from a 13-6 deadlock at half-time. Later, they came back stronger in the second half, pulling away from the Water Queens to seal the five-point victory and claim the Super Cup trophy.

The women’s Super Cup tournament featured the top six teams from the regular league season. It was held alongside the men’s competition, which saw NCPB crowned champions after beating Equity Handball Club 16–13.

Ulinzi honoured and inspired

The event also served as a trophy handover ceremony for the National Handball League. Ulinzi players and staff were honoured for their excellent performance throughout the season.

Ulinzi Sharks’ head coach, Victor Ochieng, praised his players for their discipline, teamwork, and focus throughout the tournament. He also commended the team for the good work they are doing. He also urged for more competitive matches and exposure for the team to help them grow further.

Private Dorothy Machuma, who played a key role in the final, was named the Super Cup 2025 player of the match. She thanked her coach and team for their support.

“Without training and support from the coach, I wouldn’t have made it this far,” she said after receiving her award.

The Super Cup win marks a strong finish to the season for Ulinzi Sharks, who have continued to grow into one of the most dominant forces in women’s handball. Nairobi Water Queens, though defeated, also earned praise for their efforts and sportsmanship in what was a high-quality final.

With this win, Ulinzi Sharks now look forward to building on their success and preparing for the next season, with confidence and silverware in hand.
