Uganda defeats South Africa to reach All Africa Badminton final
Uganda’s women’s team has qualified for the final of the All Africa Senior Badminton Championship after defeating South Africa in a semifinal game played on Wednesday.
The Ugandan team handled by coach William Kabindi defeated South Africa 3-0. Uganda won all the three singles matches to seal their qualification for the finals.
Fadilah Shamika Mohamed Rafi made a winning start for Uganda beating South Africa’s Deidre Laurens Jordaan 21-15, 21-13 in a match that lasted 29 minutes.
Former junior champion Tracy Naluwooza also made sure she picked a second win for Uganda stopping Diane Olivier 21-11, 21-18, before Husina Kobugabe wrapped it up with a 21-12, 21-18 win against Amy Ackerman.
“I am glad that my team has performed well since the tournament started on Monday and we are determined to continue with the good performance in the final against Egypt,” head coach Kabindi said after the matches on Wednesday night.
