Top spot in sight as Gor Mahia prepare for Kariobangi Sharks test

By , January 5, 2026

Record Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia have resumed training ahead of the engagement of the new year in the 2025/26 campaign.

K’Ogalo were taken through their spaces this Monday, January 5, 2025, as the team stepped up preparations ahead of their league match against Kariobangi Sharks slated for Tuesday, January 6, 2025.

The clash at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani will kick off at 4:00 pm.

January fixtures

The tie, their first for the year, will kick-start a whirlwind of fixtures for the record champions, who will be involved in six league matches for the month as they quest for the league title.

After the Sharks test, Gor will be up against rival Shaban FC in an away trip to the Gusii Stadium on January 10, 2025.

Charles Akkonor’s charges will then return to Nairobi to host Muranga Seal in their third match of the month on January 14, 2025.

The multiple league winners will then host Mara Sugar four days later on January 18, 2025.

A trip to Bidco United on January 24, 2025, will mark their penultimate fixture for the month, which will conclude with action against Sofapaka on the last date of the month.

All of Gor’s home clashes have been scheduled for Kasarani Stadium with a 4:00 pm kickoff date.

Leopards falter

Sharks clash with their own incentive as Gor bid to move to the summit of the league standings after log leaders, Leopards, failed to stretch their lead at the top of the table on Sunday.

Fred Ambani’s charges slumped to a 1-0 loss to Kakamega Homeboyz, surrendering the spot to the Kakamega-based team, now on 24 points after taking to the pitch 15 times.

Leopards are second with a similar haul, albeit with an inferior goal-scoring record.

Gor, who have only featured 12 times in the league this season and trail the leading pack of Homeboyz, Leopards, and Tusker FC, could move to the top with a win lifting them to 26 points.
