FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia will move five points clear at the top of the table if they secure victory against Nzoia Sugar at the Raila Odinga stadium in Homa Bay tomorrow.

K’Ogalo eventually leap-frogged Posta Rangers to take command of the summit following their 2-1 victory against Kariobangi Sharks in the Match Day 13 fixture last weekend. This was aided by the fact that the Mailmen had suffered a shock 1-0 defeat against Nairobi City Stars.

A win against the Sugar Millers will ensure K’Ogalo moves five points clear at the top before Posta takes on Tusker in their next fixture at Ruaraka grounds on Sunday. K’Ogalo coach Johnathan McKinstry, who celebrated his 50th match in charge of the champions in the victory against Sharks, stressed the importance of getting the victory against Nzoia.

“We want to take control of the table, and by doing so, we need to win our matches. We beat Sharks and moved top, and now the hard work begins. We must keep the position, and it is the reason we must beat Nzoia,” said McKinstry.

McKinstry’s record at K’Ogalo has seen him register 29 wins, 16 draws, and suffered five defeats. He has managed to win two trophies – the FKF Premier League and the FKF Shield Cup. During his time, K’Ogalo have managed to score 71 goals, conceded 42, and kept 29 clean sheets.

While Gor Mahia are on 27 points, Nzoia are sitting second from the bottom with nine points, and they will be striving to make amends having lost their last fixture 3-1 against a depleted Sofapaka side.

In other matches tomorrow, third-placed KCB, who drew 1-1 against promoted Shabana last time out, will entertain FC Talanta. Murang’a Seal will be keen to arrest a run of three matches without victory when they host Ulinzi Stars, while Nairobi City will strive to make it two wins out of two when they host Bandari.

On Sunday, the focus will be on Ruaraka grounds where Tusker will come up against Posta. Tusker coach Robert Matano has remained bullish that his side is still in the title race and should not be written off, while the Mailmen will aim to keep pace with K’Ogalo.
