Swamibapa Cricket Club extended their winning streak league to three matches as Kanbis losing streak at Ruaraka Sports Club when the Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NPCA) league entered the third week on Sunday.

It was also a good outing for defending champions Stray Lions who roared back with a comfortable nine wickets over hosts Nairobi Gymkhana.

Chasing 161/10, Swamibapa reached the target with 17.2 overs to spare thanks to another brilliant knock from Nehemiah Odhiambo.

After having led his side to three wickets win over Cutchi Leva with an unbeaten half-ton, Odhiambo was once again involved in another match-winning show with an unbeaten 42 at Nairobi Jafferys.

Three wickets

Once again, Swamibapa didn’t have the best start as they lost three wickets for 38. But Maurice Ouma, playing his first match of the season anchored the inning with run-a-ball 54 to see his side back in contention before Odhiambo and Krish Patel (28) contributed.

Sir Ali’s innings started on a sour note losing five wickets for 25 runs in 7.2 overs with all their four top order batsmen including dangerous Ahmed Hassan back in the pavilion with less than five runs to their name.

It took hard fights of 47 and 58 from Kulpreet Singh and Eugene Maneno to get them to a respectable total.

The two shared a sixth wicket stand of 101 in 29.2 overs. James Ngoche was the star with the ball with 5 for 27 with Odhiambo adding on 3 for 35.

“It’s been a good run so far and I’ve enjoyed it personally and as a team. We wanted to achieve a few things as a team and all is going as planned,” Odhiambo said.

AT Ruaraka Sports Club, former champions Kanbis were left searching for a win at the venue when they went down by six wickets to the home side.

After losing the toss, Ruaraka started off brightly when they reduced Kanbis to 57 for 4 before Rakep Patel (26), Nelson Odhiambo (21) and Keval Bhuva (20) revived the innings that led them to 158 in 41.2 overs. Yagnik Pindoriya and Maxwell Swaminathan were the top bowlers with three wickets each

In reply, Sachin Gill and Swaminathan top scored for the home team with 59 not out and 47 respectively.

At Nairobi Gymkhana, openers Shubham Jadhav (72 not out) and Francis Mutua (46) played a major role in the win with an opening stand of 98 runs as their team beat the hosts by nine wickets.

Mutua who was promoted from the tail end last season to the opening slot in the two matches faced 60 balls that included two sixes and five boundaries before he was caught at covers with 21 runs needed in pursuit of 116.

Jadhav who also top scored for Stray Lions in their loss to Obuya Academy hit 15 fours from 54 as he remained unbeaten after putting on 21 with Krishna Katukala (0).
